A Romantic Maternity Session in Inverness

During my recent travels to Scotland, I had the opportunity to photograph a maternity session just outside of Inverness, and it’s one I’ll never forget. What started as a two-mile uphill hike quickly turned into an experience that felt more like stepping into a story than a photoshoot. Within just two hours, we experienced rain, frozen rain, snow, sunshine—and somehow, even a rainbow. The kind of weather that keeps you on your toes, but also reminds you just how alive you are in that moment.
At the top of the hike stood the breathtaking Fyrish Monument—a structure inspired by the gates of Negapatam, India. Surrounded by endless rolling hills and views that quite literally stop you in your tracks, it felt like the perfect place to document such a meaningful season of life.
But what made this location even more special was the personal connection. For Kerry, this wasn’t just a beautiful viewpoint—it was a place filled with memories from her childhood, somewhere she had walked many times before. Returning here to capture such a transformative chapter in her life added a layer of depth and emotion you simply can’t recreate.
A Love That Feels Like Adventure
This session wasn’t just about the landscape—although it was undeniably breathtaking—it was about the two people standing in the middle of it.
Kerry and Jake are the kind of couple that instantly make you feel like you’ve known them forever. The kind of connection that isn’t forced or overly posed, but simply is. Effortless, natural, and full of life.
Kerry, originally from Scotland, met Jake while living in Australia—where his carefree spirit and completely unique personality drew her in. The kind of love story that already feels like an adventure before you even add in a mountaintop in the Highlands.
Now living back in Scotland for Kerry’s career, they’re building a life that spans across continents, with Australia still very much a part of their future. And honestly, I can only hope our paths cross again there one day.
